How To Restore Your Router To Factory Settings?

Resetting the router to its factory settings is a solution that restores all configurations to the state they were in when you first purchased the device. This method helps you revert the router to its original condition, allowing you to fix any issues you may be experiencing.

There are many reasons why you might need to factory reset your router. Here are some common reasons I encounter:

1. The most common problem is forgetting the login password of the router’s administration page. This forces us to restore the factory settings.
2. Software errors are also difficult to solve when you have restarted but still cannot fix it, restoring the factory settings is the last solution to bring the device back to normal operation.
3. The problem of unstable network connection is also a problem that is not only yours, so restoring factory settings can help the network quickly return to stability.
4. Being infected with malware greatly affects the personal information security of many people using the same wi-fi network, restore the router’s factory settings immediately if this is detected.
5. Revoke remote access to the router.

Restore factory settings with 2 simple methods

To restore the factory settings simply, you just need to follow 1 of the following 2 ways:

1. Manual

Nowadays, many people still use old routers or do not have specialized software, so resetting the device manually is still a simple and effective solution.

While this process is taking place, make sure the power source is still plugged into the device normally.

To do this, you just need to use a safety pin or a sharp stick with a diameter of about 2.5mm, then press and hold the Reset button on the router for about 10 to 20 seconds and wait until the light flashes or lights up again.

2. Mobile application

If you can still access your router through support apps on your phone, such as Tether (TP-Link), ASUS Router (Asus), NETGEAR Nighthawk WiFi Router, or the app provided by your router manufacturer, you can easily restore factory settings with just a few steps.

Tether

1. Download the Tether app from Google Play Store or App Store.
2. Connect to the Wi-Fi network of your current TP-Link router.
3. Open the TP-Link Tether app and select the router device you want to restore.
4. On the router model interface, select System > Restore Factory Default.
5. Click Restore > OK.

Once the restore process is complete, your Wi-Fi connection will be disconnected. You will now see a new Wi-Fi network named TP-Link_XXXX. Tap connect and reopen the Tether app to reset the Wi-Fi name and password.

Asus

1. Download the ASUS Router app from Google Play Store or App Store.
   
2. Connect your phone to the ASUS router’s Wi-Fi network
3. Open the ASUS Router app and log in to your ASUS account or choose to connect directly to the router.
4. Select the router you want to restore to factory settings.
5. Here, select Settings > Administration > Restore/Save/Upload Setting.
6. Select Restore to Factory Default and press OK.

NETGEAR Nighthawk – WiFi App

1. Download the NETGEAR Nighthawk – WiFi App app from Google Play Store or App Store.
   
2. Connect your phone to the Wi-Fi network of your NETGEAR Nighthawk router.
3. Open the Nighthawk app and log in with your Netgear account (create a new one if you don’t have one).
4. After logging in, select the router you want to factory reset.
5. On the main interface, select Advanced.
6. Reset > Factory Reset.
7. Click Yes to confirm.
8. The router will automatically reboot and restore to factory settings.

Important Note: During the factory reset process, make sure the power source is always connected and do not press the device's power button to avoid conflict or interrupt the process.
